Friedrichstraße 100, Berlin
Office Building and Housing

Urban Context

The big axis of the „Friedrichstrasse“ obtains a disturbance by the S-Bahn-bridge. On the plot nr.100 the contrasts between the railway building and the town figure collide unsolved. The design for the Friedrichstrassen-BOGEN derives from this difficult but rich situation an unique building.

Under a skin, protected from noise caused by the railway a clearly structured building is developed. The particular parts: office, gastronomy and service - are accessible from the Friedrichstrasse via a generous Atrium. The central Atrium functions also as an mediator to show the activity and attractiveness of the house to the outside.

The shape of the roof connects perfectly to the eaves lines of the neighbouring building. The sloping flow integrates the higher part into the volume. The corner to the S-Bahn bridge is solved by the sloping movement of the roof. Here the offices, as not really usable are cut out in favour for a multi-story entrance.

Function and Structure
The inner structure of the building is very compact. The crosswise organized floor plans guarantee a highest possible amount of office spaces with good daylight. Only three staircases are necessary for the access.
Each of the four courtyards uses its situation. In the south one has a great view and a maximum of daylight with full noise protection. In the north the courtyard of the neighbouring Admiralspalast is closed in an appropriate way.
